Project: Seven Gens Forestry

Seven Generations Forestry and We Forest Earth are collaborating to restore a degraded area of pasture to lowland subtropical rainforest. This project will occur on land owned by Seven Generations Forestry located in Blue Knob near Nimbin in northern NSW. You have an opportunity to contribute to this restoration by donating to We Forest Earth. For every $8 donated We Forest Earth will plant a tree at Seven Generations adding to the 6000+ trees planted by Seven Generations in 2022.

The Project aims to convert an area just under 200 acres of degraded, compacted ex-cattle pasture to a diverse and thriving patch of lowland subtropical rainforest. The first phase of restoration is focussing on a 5acre area known as ‘Sweet water creek’.
There is an intermittent watercourse that runs through the site and meets a permanent freshwater creek. By enhancing the ecosystem on our site we will improve soil health and biodiversity. The flow of water will be slowed and water will be filtered and absorbed better into the landscape.
To achieve our aims for this project we will focus first on mass planting native trees and controlling grass species using mechanical methods ie.brushcutting. We will plant very densely with a high diversity of species. Due to succession many plants will be pruned, culled, inoculated (with fungi) or succeeded. Over time new species will migrate into the site and increase the health and complexity of the ecosystem.
